Our Technology

Innovative AR try-on technology

Our advanced Computer Vision (CV) algorithms precisely analyze the user's body shape and positioning in 3D space, while realistic cloth simulation ensures that virtual garments move and drape naturally. This seamless integration of digital and physical elements delivers a highly immersive Augmented Reality (AR) experience, bringing virtual try-ons to life like never before.

1) Computer Vision

At Immersa Studios, our computer vision models are key to powering the virtual clothing try-on experience, enabling us to accurately analyze and interpret the visual information captured by the camera.

Computer Vision

3D body tracking aims to precisely capture and track a user's body position in three-dimensional space. This task is a major focus of machine learning (ML) research due to challenges such as body parts being hidden or partially obscured by clothing. Additionally, accurately determining depth from a single camera image presents a significant obstacle.

To achieve optimal performance across a variety of scenarios, including complex poses and challenging lighting conditions, we constantly explore the latest research and incorporate innovative ideas from cutting-edge findings. A significant portion of our resources is dedicated to data collection and labeling. Over the past year, we've compiled tens of thousands of labeled images, and we're currently expanding our dataset even further.

Our approach centers on two key components: 2D Pose Estimation (PE) and Depth Estimation. 2D Pose Estimation involves determining the spatial positions of human body joints from a 2D image. To ensure the accuracy of our ML models, we meticulously annotate the training data using detailed guidelines that were developed in collaboration with anatomists and artists (examples can be seen below). For depth estimation, we utilize a separate ML model to calculate the distance to each joint identified by the Pose Estimation model.

Although advanced 3D body tracking is the core of our technology, additional ML models are essential to delivering a truly lifelike try-on experience. For instance, we use hand segmentation to ensure the user’s hands are visible and not concealed by the virtual clothing. Additionally, foreground segmentation helps create realistic virtual backgrounds.

Running multiple ML models in real-time can often lead to significant delays. To overcome this challenge, we created a multi-task ML model that handles several tasks at once, reducing the overall inference time. Additionally, training on multiple related tasks enhances generalization by identifying common patterns and dependencies, ultimately improving overall performance.

2) Cloth and Handbag Physics Simulation

Our cloth simulation algorithm mimics the way fabric moves and adjusts when it comes into contact with the human body.

Cloth and Handbag Physics Simulation

While it's a computationally demanding challenge, we efficiently implement it on a GPU.

To deliver a premium try-on experience for bags, Immersa Studios developed an innovative technique using soft-body simulation. These digital bags also integrate Ragdoll physics, allowing them to move fluidly with the user’s hand.

To elevate the realism and better replicate the behavior of real-world garments, we've created an in-house Designer Studio. This tool empowers designers to adjust a variety of parameters within the simulation, allowing for greater customization and accuracy.

3) Rendering

At Immersa Studios, we’ve built a specialized 3D engine designed specifically for virtual try-on experiences. This engine leverages advanced optimizations to deliver smooth, lifelike rendering of virtual clothing and bags.

Rendering

Our engine utilizes Physically Based Rendering (PBR) techniques, allowing us to simulate light’s interaction with different materials. This results in virtual garments that are incredibly realistic, with accurate reflections, highlights, and shadows. By replicating how light behaves on fabrics, we create a highly immersive and visually stunning virtual try-on experience.

Moreover, our engine supports video textures, adding dynamic surface details that bring exceptional depth and vibrancy to the visuals.

To create a truly immersive and visually captivating try-on experience, we use custom shaders. These specialized programs run on the graphics processing unit (GPU) and determine how objects in our virtual world are rendered. Custom shaders elevate the level of detail, allowing us to craft futuristic visual effects that seamlessly blend realism with creative imagination.

A standout application of these shaders in our custom 3D engine is the rendering of fur. We utilize advanced fur shaders to replicate the texture and movement of fur on virtual clothing, adding an additional layer of realism and enhancing the overall quality of the virtual try-on experience.

We also use shaders to incorporate a range of stunning visual effects, such as fire and metallic textures, generative video textures, and the seamless addition of new objects that dynamically interact with the virtual garment, further enriching the immersive experience.

Our advanced post-processing system, powered by a versatile shader graph, allows us to apply a wide range of effects, including color correction, bloom, and depth of field. The flexibility and capability of our rendering engine support both realistic clothing depiction and the creation of visually striking futuristic effects, resulting in a truly immersive experience.
